Position Description
Develop layup and assembly processes, set-ups and use manual techniques
for the fabrication of composite structural assemblies. Set up and
troubleshoot composite parts for fabrication, assembly or layup.
Assemble or layup parts and components. Assemble and repair simple to
complex composite parts and components within quality and time
standards, and perform metallic and nonmetallic sub/assembly. Identify
nonconforming detail parts, assemblies and processes. Read and interpret
drawings, plans, process specifications, and other documents to
understand tooling, materials, sequence of operations, techniques, and
other factors required for fabrication. May provide technical
leadership; demonstrate and explain production operations; lead teams on
assignments; check quality and quantity of work; troubleshoot
fabrication problems and recommend solutions. Follow-up with Production
Control to ensure resources are available. Ensure all assemblies and
detail parts are free of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and nonconformance
issues. Check units for compliance using hand held precision measuring
equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages and scales.
Report all nonconformances to manufacturing supervision or corrective
action representative. Prepare rejection tags noting deviations from
specifications on dimensions, finishes, material, quality or processes.
Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions to safety
officials or manufacturing supervision. Report job status and restraints
to coworkers and supervision. Identify production inefficiencies and
suggest potential improvements to product or process.
Competencies
Must be knowledgeable of the chemical composition, structure, and
properties of substances and of the chemical processes and
transformations that they undergo (uses of chemicals and their
interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal
methods), particularly resins and adhesives; and skilled in the use of
raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other
techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of composite parts
and assemblies. Must be able to interpret blueprints, sketches and
written and verbal instructions; apply shop math; and use computer
systems for office and shop applications. Skilled in listening and
interpersonal participation, and able to work with others as part of a
team which includes giving and receiving feedback, and assisting others
in completion of tasks. Requires completing and maintaining all required
certifications and training.
Typical Education/Experience
Prefer minimum 2 years composite fabrication experience; and Electro
Static Discharge (ESD) level 1/2 certification.
Other Job related information
Requires a good working understanding of mixing resins; working with
film adhesives; and vacuum bagging parts for high temperature autoclave
and oven cures. Prefer knowledge of lean principles.
