CAD/CAM |
CNC Programmer
and Operator
CNC programmers use computer numerically controlled (CNC)
machines to cut and shape precision products, such as
automobile, aviation, and machine parts. In CNC
manufacturing the CAM system is used to simplify the
machining and designing process.
Industrial
Engineer
Industrial engineers analyze and evaluate methods of
production and point out ways to improve them. In lean
manufacturing systems, Industrial engineers work to
eliminate wastes of time, money, materials, energy, and
other resources.
Manufacturing
Engineer
Manufacturing Engineers plan, direct, and coordinate
elements of design, materials, and manufacturing processes
in industrial plants. They work from the design for a
product and develop processes for production, standards, and
quality control.
Production
Management
| Plant Manager
Manufacturing, Production or Plant managers serve a
multitude of purposes including being responsibility for
production scheduling, staffing, equipment, quality control,
inventory control, and the coordination of production
activities.
Manufacturing
Quality
In a manufacturing environment, quality improves reliability
and increases production. Quality Assurance is the
prevention of defects as in a QMS system, and Quality
Control is the detection of defects and usually involves
some means of testing.
Millwright
| Industrial Machine
Mechanic
Millwrights install, replace, dismantle, and repair
machinery and heavy equipment in a manufacturing setting.
In addition to installing and dismantling machinery, many
work with industrial mechanics and maintenance to repair and
maintain equipment.
Process Engineer
A Process Engineer develops economical industrial processes
to make a range of products. Responsibilities involve
designing equipment, understanding the reactions taking
place, installing control systems, and starting, running and
upgrading the processes.

Tool & Die
| Machinist
Tool & Die workers produce and repair tools, dies, and
special guiding and holding devices that enable machines to
manufacture products. Machinists use machine tools,
such as lathes, milling machines, and machining centers, to
produce precision metal parts.
Warehouse |
Distribution
A warehouse worker in general receives, stores, retrieves,
and delivers various types of items that are part of a
warehouse operation. They may receive, log and verify
all incoming and outgoing freight shipments, uses loading
and unloading equipment, etc.
Welding
| Soldering | Brazing
Skilled welding, soldering, and brazing workers plan work
from drawings or specifications and use their knowledge of
welding processes to determine how best to join parts.
Highly skilled welders often are trained to work with a wide
variety of materials.
General
and Administrative
| Sales | Marketing
Modern manufacturing includes all intermediate processes
required for the production and integration of a product's
components. Some industries, such as semiconductor and
steel manufacturers use the term fabrication instead.
